Project: The Sun is Finally Out

Location: Pittsburgh, PA (specific locations TBD)

Bio: A Korean-American photographer, producer, and multidisciplinary artist, Hanna's work observes the modern world through the female gaze. In 2019, she incorporated a trauma-informed paradigm into her own practice, in preparation for her Tender series and other intimate projects. She has had work shown in the Carnegie Museum of Art, TODAY.com, the Smithsonian Museum of Asian Art, and more.

Concept: “The abstracted label…cannot hold anybody. I am free to go beyond…go beyond the tokenizing label,” Ocean Vuong once spoke upon the myth of AAPI representation falling on a single person. Within this film project, we create a series of vignettes, whether imaginary or real, erasing the false monoliths of what it means to be queer and what it means to be Asian. These bodies–our bodies, are worthy of representation on their own.

Less than 7 minutes total. Mix of documentary (if real couple)/dreamy, scenes of love between different queer Asian Americans in their own individual relationships. A celebration of unbounded joy, tenderness, and rawness–shedding frequently-fed narratives of trauma and pain.

Think: cooking a homemade family recipe together in the kitchen followed by some slow dancing, sharing an ice cream cone at Paige’s on a summer evening, running together hand-in-hand through a field during golden hour, running a bubble bath and washing each other’s hair, etc.

There is no official dialogue or script, other than capturing authentic conversational moments between the two of you. Many candid moments of comfortable silence. There may potentially be a separate voiceover answering a few questions surrounding your views and emotions on love, and being Asian and queer. Any writings (old poems, love letters, notebook scrawls, childhood diary entries) surrounding these themes are also greatly appreciated if you’d like to share them, and you will of course be credited.

This is a great opportunity to add to your portfolio for a very short time commitment. For couples, this is a lovely chance to be able to authentically and professionally capture your relationship at this moment in time.

Note: I will be utilizing my trauma-informed approach to this project, and aim to establish relationships and have conversations with each cast member/couple leading up to filming to gauge comfort levels, share full project details so there aren’t any surprises, and just get to know you more as a fellow queer Asian :)

Requirements: There isn’t any specific age range, gender identity, or particular look required, other than identifying as AAPI and part of the LGBTQ+ community. We are searching for either 1. Authentic queer couples, with one or both individuals identifying as AANPI, or 2. Queer AAPI individuals interested in playing a part of a couple. You do not need any prior acting experience, but must be comfortable in front of cameras/small crew. Even though some scenes may be crafted in regards to aesthetics and settings, what we want to shine through is your joy, vulnerability, and openness.

This short film is in collaboration with the Academy through their filmmaking fellowship. This film will be screened at the Museum in late September under the mentorship of former Netflix producers, and potentially in future opportunities.

Compensation: This is an unpaid opportunity, but I am happy to give cast members/couples a custom mini portrait session if they’d like (valued at $180), along with providing beverages and food for shooting day.

Shoot Dates: Mid-late July 2024, early August at the latest. Only 1-2 (most likely 1) days to shoot per couple.

Project: The Gentle Way

An action-packed martial arts film that demands a cast of skilled martial artists willing to perform their own stunts and master intricate fight sequences. Looking for karate, Taekwondo & Judo practitioner.

Sensei Henada faced a challenge when another dojo proposed a fight to determine the state champion. Despite their insistence, she declined the offer due to the recent passing of her father, upholding the family's tradition of refraining from competition during mourning. The other dojos persisted in their efforts to provoke a match with her, driven by their desire to claim the state championship title. Pressured by the leader of the opposing school, T.O., Henada found herself in a dilemma. T.O., bound by his own sense of honor, felt unable to move forward without defeating her. The situation took an unexpected turn when a security guard named Khano intervened, offering protection to Henada based on his knowledge of her family's history.

Project: "MOR DRED"

A world premiere stage play story but framed in a superhero/graphic novel format.

SYNOPSIS:

In a thriving modern city protected by a superpowered hero, the citizens feel safe, and the future looks optimistic and secure—that is, until a mysterious, compelling young man with an intoxicating charm and a flair for words surfaces and begins to “enlighten” all with whom he speaks with his hedonistic gospel, shattering their perceptions and making them question everything with an insatiable “Why?”

“WHY do we have to follow THEIR laws? WHY do we have to live by some randomly established code of what THEY call ‘morals’? WHY can’t we kill our neighbor if we’re having a bad day? If the answer is, ‘society agreed to it’, what if they all suddenly didn’t? I didn’t conceive them. I didn’t agree to them. Did you? WHY? WHY? WHY?”

Inspiring a new, cultish following which regards decadent self-gratification above all other things, he turns his sights to the city’s hero, its beacon of all that’s good and righteous, with the goal of “enlightening” him as well by convincing him to abandon his self-imposed restraint and luxuriate in all his powers could provide—if only he’d let them. And as the “good” people slowly begin to reveal their “secret identities” to the world—the people who they truly are when unrestrained—a menacing threat portending worse things to come begins to appear around the city—two words…“MOR DRED”.

Project: Christian Sitcom

We are producing a Christian Sitcom --filming episodes 2-4 beginning July 28 in Cleveland, and September 3rd in Ft. Lauderdale and are looking for actors/extras for one-time and ongoing episodes.

A Quality Christian Sitcom?
Mocking God and His principles is the norm in every single sitcom.  With your help, that's about to change.

The author of a book which hit #2 on the Christian "Relationship" chart has written this sitcom to counter the culture while making people laugh.  Like the book, the fun, upbeat sitcom will take viewers on a roller coaster ride from "Mr. Right Now" all the way to "Mr. Right," without losing heart and without losing faith.

Author of six books is best known as the architect of the pro-life Heartbeat Bill (to protect every child whose heartbeat can be detected) which is now law in 14 states (and counting). She is not satisfied with the status quo and is known for changing it.

WHY?  Reaching the Lost & Discipling Nations.  While most non-Christians aren't drawn to sermons, everyone wants to laugh.  The sitcom "What's a Girl to Do?" will make people laugh while putting God and His truths in a positive light--finally.

Be a Pioneer & Help Pave the Way!  Your talent can help produce the first quality Christian Sitcom of its kind.  It features Robert Davi (The Goonies, Die Hard, The Expendables 3), Rusty Joiner (Dodgeball, Melrose Place, Voiceless), Chris Routhe (Chicago Fire, Empire, Chicago PD.), Matthew Moore (Homeless for the Holidays), George Kokkoris (Android Cop, Burn Notice), and many other accomplished actors.

There are lots of good Christian movies, but there are NO Christian sitcoms from which to choose.  Let's change that. Instead of entertainment with the indoctrination of a godless worldview, let's create a quality sitcom that honors God and advances His Kingdom...while having fun.
